Shock disinfection in the showers of a swimming pool

When sports complexes are temporarily closed or used less, the showers are used less. This reduced use of showers, among other things, causes more stagnant water, resulting in greatly increased Legionella risks.

This is solved with a shock disinfection.

When sports complexes are temporarily closed or used less, the showers are used less. Not using the sanitary installations leads to stagnant water and warming of the cold water. Both factors promote the development of legionella in the water pipes.

Regular flushing of the entire system is often not sufficient to prevent a Legionella contamination. A shock disinfection is then necessary to thoroughly solve the problem in the short term.

With a shock disinfection, a "microbial reset" of the entire water pipe network is achieved in a short time (the complete procedure only takes one day).

In this procedure, our technical team injects an increased concentration of Diox Forte into the pipes by means of a mobile dosing station. The concentration of the disinfectant is continuously monitored and when the protocol validated by us is reached, the entire system is flushed. When leaving the building, our technical manager guarantees that all water again meets the quality standards of drinking water.

If a re-contamination returns after a few months and the sanitary installation cannot be sufficiently adapted structurally, for example by removing dead pipe sections, the Konax® Easydis can offer a solution as continuous supporting disinfection. The Konax Easydis is recognised by the Flemish Department of Care (Departement Zorg) as an alternative management measure within the framework of the Legionella management plan.
