Disinfection of production water in a brewery

Application

In the beverage industry, tunnel pasteurisers are used to pasteurise bottled drinks in their packaging. The water used for this varies from very hot to cold and is an ideal breeding ground for germs.

Disinfection of production water in a brewery

In the brewery, the tunnel pasteuriser is crucial for the efficient pasteurisation of bottled drinks. Algae growth, among other things, increases the risk of this pasteuriser clogging. This clogging lowers the efficiency of the tunnel pasteuriser and increases the risk of contamination through germ growth.

This customer asked us to find an affordable, cost-effective solution for disinfecting the tunnel pasteurizer. At a later stage, they also asked us to disinfect the process water. Cost-effectiveness is important given that very large volumes of water are needed while at the same time the high microbial requirements of their process must be met. Continuous, uninterrupted disinfection is a must.

We installed a Konax® Prodis for the first tunnel pasteuriser. The dosing is controlled based on an ORP measurement. Three ORP sensors were placed per tunnel pasteuriser, which in turn control 3 dosing pumps. This ensures continuous correct dosing. The Konax Prodis is continuously monitored remotely thanks to the connection with our IoT online platform.

Encouraged by the good results, this setup was copied to the second tunnel pasteuriser. Both systems work flawlessly. The efficiency of the tunnel pasteuriser remains high because the algae growth is under control, and this with a minimal consumption of disinfection product.

Finally, the process water was also successfully treated here with the same installation. At this location, three separate water streams are now treated by a single Konax Prodis. Each circuit has a separate, tailored dosing, which ensures cost-effective efficiency!
