At this customer, an additional disinfection with the Konax® Prodis is needed to not only achieve effective water disinfection, but also to completely remove the biofilm in the pipes.

The slaughterhouse uses a mixture of groundwater and city water to feed the process water, the rinse water and the hot water. After being pumped up, the groundwater is de-ironed and stored in two tanks of 100 and 150 m³. The weekly water requirement is approximately 2000 m³.
Before storage in the tanks, the pumped-up water is disinfected with sodium hypochlorite. This treatment was sufficient for years, until during a routine sampling, E. coli was found in the water samples. Initially, a thorough cleaning of the storage tanks and increased chlorination were applied, but this did not provide a solution.
We were called in because it was suspected that the biofilm was the cause of the persistent re-contamination with E. coli. This biofilm could not be removed, even with increased dosing of chlorine.
Due to the acute problem, we immediately started with Diox Forte as an additional disinfection of the process water. After 2 weeks of supportive disinfection, the problem was solved and the water results negative for E. coli.
This continuous additional dosing of Diox Forte proved necessary to keep the biofilm under control and to exclude the risk of a new E. coli contamination. That is why we switched to our fully automatic dosing system, the Konax Prodis. This installation controls three dosing pumps, one for each circuit.
In the first weeks after the start-up, the residual concentration was monitored weekly by the quality manager. After a few adjustments, the results were stable and the customer has a precisely tuned, fully automatic system. Further monitoring of correct dosing and water flow is done continuously via the online Konax-IoT Platform.
